This course aims to provide basic exposure to the students about the needs and interests of the community and their role towards a sustainable development. This course includes the understanding of the concept of community service, the current problems as well as sensitivity to the issues in the community. Knowledge and skills gained through its community service activities or projects systematically, working with communities, agencies within and outside the country in line with the philosophy of education to develop holistic students. The course also emphasizes on the concept of sustainability through the implementation of sustainable economic and social integration concepts in the projects. Overall, students will be exposed to the implementation of university-community engagement (UCE) projects for lifelong learning.

Kursus ini bertujuan memberikan pendedahan asas kepada pelajar tentang keperluan dan kepentingan masyarakat serta peranan mereka ke arah pembangunan sahsiah yang lebih lestari. Kursus ini mencakupi pemahaman tentang konsep khidmat komuniti, masalah semasa serta kepekaan terhadap isu-isu dalam komuniti. Pengetahuan dan kemahiran khidmat masyarakat ini diperoleh melalui pelaksanaan aktiviti atau projek yang sistematik, dengan menjalinkan kerjasama dengan masyarakat, agensi dalam dan luar negara selaras dengan matlamat falsafah pendidikan untuk melahirkan pelajar yang holistik. Kursus ini juga menekankan konsep kelestarian melalui projek yang menerapkan konsep ekonomi lestari dan integrasi sosial. Secara keseluruhan, pelajar akan mendapat pendedahan dengan pelaksanaan projek libat sama komuniti-universiti yang lestari bagi pembelajaran sepanjang hayat.
WSK 102 | SAINS KESUKARELAWANAN / VOLUNTEERISM
This course discusses basic knowledge of volunteerism and the implementation of volunteerism. This course provides exposure to students on the definition of volunteerism and self-preparation as well as the actual concept of volunteerism. This course also gives students exposure on safety and health issues, as well as mental development, and voluntary spirit. This affects the development of self motivation and leadership. This course is carried out with experiential learning approaches where students need to practice the science of volunteerism to carry out community development projects in the appropriate scope. In addition, students need to demonstrate team leadership and teamwork skills to implement volunteerism projects for the community. Students are expected to gain experience and practicality in relation to these activities by responding to local community issues. Students can also communicate with other organizations that can assist in the success of the community project in various forms including obtaining financial resources.

Kursus ini membincangkan pengetahuan asas sains kesukarelawanan dan pelaksanaan terhadap aktiviti kesukarelawanan. Kursus ini memberi pendedahan kepada pelajar berkaitan takrifan kesukarelawanan dan persiapan diri serta konsep sebenar kesukarelawanan. Kursus ini juga memberi pendedahan kepada pelajar tentang isu keselamatan dan kesihatan, serta pembangunan mental, dan semangat sukarela. Hal ini memberi kesan kepada pembangunan motivasi diri dan kepimpinan. Kursus ini dijalankan dengan pendekatan pembelajaran berdasarkan pengalaman yang mana pelajar perlu mempraktikkan pengetahuan sains kesukarelawanan untuk menjalankan projek pembangunan komuniti dalam skop yang bersesuaian. Disamping itu, pelajar perlu mempamerkan kemahiran kepimpinan dan kerja secara berpasukan untuk melaksanakan projek kesukarelawanan terhadap komuniti. Pelajar dijangka dapat memperoleh pengalaman serta praktikal berkaitan aktiviti tersebut dengan memberi maklum balas kepada isu komuniti setempat. Pelajar juga boleh berkomunikasi dengan organisasi lain yang dapat membantu menjayakan projek komuniti tersebut dalam pelbagai bentuk termasuk mendapatkan sumber kewangan.
